3 Things New Moms Can Learn From Their Male Partners

Men are notorious for their ability to recite baseball stats of their favorite players, yet suffer memory loss about taking out the trash. When moms get together to trade stories, half of their tales are about their partners. Men can fix a car in 10 minutes, but can t seem to change a diaper without losing their cool.

Despite the frustration many new moms have about their partners parenting techniques, there are more than a few valuable lessons to learn from them. Below, we ll introduce you to three.

Tip 1 Look Good, Feel Good

With the popularity of casual dress, men rarely need to don their suits and ties when going into the office. But, that doesn t mean they look slovenly. On the contrary, guys can appear professional in a pair of nicely pressed pants and a clean button down shirt.

Psychologists have long claimed that a person s appearance has a large influence on how they feel. The better you dress, the better your mood. You might enjoy wearing sweats every day as you take care of the weekly chores. And your hair might feel best when pulled back into a pony tail. But, you might be surprised by the energy you ll feel from wearing clean clothes, doing your hair, and adding a hint of lip gloss.

Tip 2 Roll With The Punches

Men are seldom anxious about anything, including things that arguably should make them anxious. Women, on the other hand, worry. This is an area in which moms can learn from dads about how to cope with the curve balls life throws new parents. By learning to roll with the punches, women can set aside their concerns about less than critical items. Run out of diapers? No problem. House is a mess? Let s clean it. The toilet s broken? Let s call the plumber. Every problem has a solution, and it s usually a simple one.

Tip 3 Sleep Like A Baby

If there s one thing that irritates new moms, it s their partner s ability to sleep through anything. A car could crash through the living room and men will barely stir. Women often have difficulty getting to sleep. And when they re finally able to do so, they have trouble sleeping soundly.

In moms defense, one of the reasons they find it difficult to sleep is because they anticipate their baby s crying or feeding times. However, a constant inability to reach REM sleep ultimately leads to exhaustion. And that can gradually rattle the nerves and make it even harder to roll with the punches. Moms, put sleep on the top of your priority list.

To be sure, the habits men have can frustrate women. However, there are several traits from which moms can benefit if they adopt them. Take the time to spruce up your appearance each day; you ll feel more energetic. Learn to let non critical things slide off your back; less worry will help you sleep more soundly. Finally, sleep; find a way to calm your nerves and put your mind at rest. You ll find that your mood, energy, and outlook will dramatically improve.
