Since only an irritant is introduced into the mollusk, not a bead, the pearl created is incredibly hard and lustrous. This is also where color comes into play. The irritant is implanted into the mantle tissue so whatever color that tissue is replicates itself onto the pearl.
Lavender pearls are a bit rarer than some of the other colors, which makes them pretty valuable. These pearls have a beautiful, soft tone to them often with a high luster.
