Business plan: First of all, what is your business plan? Are you going to run a service, sell a product, create your own product? There are so many possibilities out there, but you need to first come up with an outline or blueprint. This means come up with a name, find out which audience you’re looking to target, how much start up costs are going to really cost, etc.
Location: Where do you want your business to be located? Are you opening up a salon in town, running a business in your basement, or do you need an office building? Find a place that works best for you. Also, be sure to compare the prices of each place. You will find that some places are much more expensive than others just because of the location.
Finance: You also need to get all your finances together. Do you have enough money to start up this company? Meaning can you pay rent each month, pay for all the supplies you need, and do you have enough start up money? It is common to find yourself running shorter than you thought.
Legalities: Decide whether you are going to form a sole proprietorship, a partnership, an LLC, corporation, non profit or cooperative.
Business name: It is also important that you register your business name with the state. This name will then belong to you, and give you a title of your business.
Tax Identification number: Learn which tax identification number you will need to from the IRS and your state revenue agency.
Register: You will also need to register with your state to get a tax identification number, unemployment and disability insurance, and workers compensation. You never know what the future holds.
License: It is also a must that you get a list of federal, state and local licenses and permits required for your business. These are especially important if you’ve graduated from college and have a degree in your business. These show that you are licensed for whatever you’re doing.
