Do you know why manners matter? I was raised being told that having good manners will take you far. I truly believe this. When it comes to meeting and dating women, your manners could make you or break you.

Do you have good manners? If you don’t answer this with a resounding yes, I suggest you ask some close friends whether they think you have good manners.

To have good manners means that you are not self absorbed and are thinking about others in everything you do. This could be subconsciously, as well. For instance, even if you are in a rush and have your hands full, it means pausing a moment to hold the door for the person behind you.

It means saying please and thank you without even thinking about it. It should be an automatic response. It means saying excuse me before you interrupt a conversation.

It also means that instead of rushing right up to the clerk at the store and blurting out a question: “Where’s automotives?” It is taking a moment to politely say, “Good afternoon. Excuse me. I was wondering if you could point me to the automotive section.”

I knew a guy named Jack who had the most impeccable style and manners I have ever seen. He was quite a character – always dressed to the nines. His trademark was that he always, always, always wore a tie. Even with shorts, he would wear a short sleeve shirt and tie. It sounds goofy, but with him it totally worked. He even wore a silk tie with his silk pajamas to bed. I am not making this up.

The girls were crazy about Jack. His feelings would be hurt if a girl attempted to open her own car door before he could open it for her. He had expensive silver lighter and he would have it ready to light a woman’s cigarette the moment it touched her lips.

Once we were driving somewhere and the woman in the front seat with Jack pulled out her compact and a tube of red lipstick. Jack immediately pulled over to the side of the road so she could apply her lipstick without the movement of the car making it more difficult.

Jack was a one of a kind guy with the best manners I’ve ever seen. Everything he did was done to make someone else’s life easier. He constantly thought about how he could help other people. His manners and his ties were his trademark. And the girls loved it and loved him.

Now, I’m not saying you need to be Jack, but you might want to think about what he did. When you are going about your day are there things you could do to make someone else’s life easier? I’m sure there is. If you think this way, not only will you be more attractive to the women you are trying to meet or are dating, but I guarantee you that you will feel better about yourself and your own life.
