Trade shows and conventions are big business, and have become regular events that many professional men and women attend. If you find yourself getting ready to attend a trade show, there are a few things that you need to be aware of before you start packing your suitcase.

Trade shows are an important part of the professional's career. At events such as conferences and shows, you are given the opportunity to meet people and make connections that could positively impact your business or career. However, by the same token, the impact that you make during a trade show could be negative as well. Due to the immense opportunity one has at a trade show, it is important to make the best possible impression on everyone you meet.

Trade shows and conferences are unique in their scheduling. Unlike business luncheons and meetings, trade shows typically only allow for quick face to face meetings. If you have a new product or service you want to promote to clients, or you want to make connections with vendors; you have very little time to make a good impression. Actually, in any situation you have been sized up within the first 20 seconds. And this first impression is dependent upon one thing - your appearance.

At most trade shows today, you will see an array of looks; some professional, some not so much. Business casual seems to be the way most men go when dressing for a show. Just what does that mean? The first rule of thumb needs to be that blue jeans do not classify as business casual. Staying comfortable is important, yes; but not at the expense of looking professional.

When you understand the opportunities available at trade shows, you can better grasp the importance of your appearance. Let's say you are a young professional who wants to make new connections. Do you think anyone will take you seriously if you show up wearing flip flops, a t-shirt and slouchy jeans? Absolutely not. To make the kind of impression people will remember in a good way, you want to be well groomed from head to toe.

Khaki pants or comfortable dress slacks are great attire for trade shows. And while the majority of men will say that it is acceptable to wear a polo shirt with company logo, the way to really stand out is to go above and beyond that type of clothing. Especially if you are looking to network effectively at this show, you could wear slacks and long sleeved button down shirts with shoes comfortable enough to walk around in. Now that's how you look and feel great!

An integral part of any trade show is the ID badge. While badge holders and lanyards can be acquired through work or through the trade show directly, you could also go above and beyond here. Instead of going for for the traditional brightly colored ribbon lanyard, you could plan ahead and purchase a ribbon lanyard that looks and feels more professional.

Badge holders and lanyards are typically worn at trade shows, and are often worn at work. When you invest in a ribbon lanyard that shows your masculine style, you can wear it long after the trade show is over.

Author Resource: William F. Gabriel gives practical tips on choosing the right badge holders and lanyards and ribbon lanyards.
