Many young women are graduating college in their early twenties. Making the switch from college attire to more professional attire can be a difficult transition for some. You want to look like the professional that you are while not giving up your personal style. What many college graduates find is that they feel confined by much of the professional wardrobe they find. The consequence is that they may then turn up for interviews or a new job looking and feeling less than the professional they are.

There are ways a young woman can look and feel great upon entering the workforce for the first time; and this can be accomplished while never sacrificing personal style. The first step in ensuring that you look and feel your best is to take cues from the field in which you are headed. Office clothing varies from place to place and from one field to another. For instance, a law office or finance firm will require more formal dress from employees. Point being is that you must look the part of the position you hold.

In a formal work environment, a young woman will need to invest in tailored suits and dresses; and a few pairs of slacks. Colors that are typically seen in a formal workplace are black, navy and grey. Punches of color can be added in a scarf or worn on a neck lanyard which holds an ID badge or eye glasses.

The majority of workplaces have a dress code consisting of what is called business casual. This type of dress is comfortable but still allows you to look presentable and professional. The key is to dress simple when first starting out in a new workplace. You want to look your best; but not better than the boss. This is where badge accessories can really come in handy. Most people will wear some sort of ID badge at work; and badge accessories can not only dress up your attire but also add more function to your everyday attire.

The neck lanyard is typically worn to hold an ID badge. To add a flair; the young professional woman could switch out her brightly colored nylon neck lanyard for one adorned with beads. This is a small change in an outfit; but one that will give a whole new look to what you wear each day. In the business casual environment, badge accessories like the beaded neck lanyard or a decorative badge reel can make an enormous difference in how you are perceived. When your clothing is neat and stylish, and you adorn each outfit with something functional, you raise your level of business attire just enough.

A bit different from the formal work environment, a business casual environment allows the young graduate to possibly utilize some of the items of clothing she may already have in her wardrobe. The key is to not forget the word "business" in business casual. The items that will not make the transition from classroom to boardroom are jeans, low cut blouses, and open-toe sandals like flip flops.

By paying close attention to how the boss dresses, a young woman should have no problem discerning the best way to show up for work.
