Nitrile gloves are used to protect the hands from contamination when working in medical, commercial, or food service settings. It is imperative to have protection supplies all over but direct contact from hands to anywhere else on your body including your eyes is how the germs and disease travel. If the hands get contaminated somehow it is difficult to clean it all off since some are so powerful they might infest and wait in the core of the hands.

By the same token, they also work to protect the product being made from one's hands! In certain industries, such as microchip fabrication, it is critical that workers have no contact with the components being manufactured or assembled. Nitrile gloves are made of nitrile butadiene rubber, or NBR. NBR, while capable of diverse characteristics depending on its method of manufacture, is generally resistant to chemicals such as oil, though the higher the resistance the lower the flexibility. Besides gloves, the material is also used to make seals and grommets as well as sponges, floor mats, and footwear.

It is most commonly encountered by many in the form of the nitrile gloves used in medical examination and research. Its resilience makes it an ideal material for such tasks, though strength and flexibility is inferior when compared to that offered by natural rubber. However, these gloves are actually three times more puncture resistant, and the material is also often used in the automotive and aerospace industries. This gives it the edge the rest cannot handle preventing deeper damages which can be seen as light damages but without certainty may be the biggest problem.

Nitrile is preferred over latex when it comes to medical gloves because quite a number of people develop allergies to natural latex rubber due to a certain protein that is present in it. Actually, it's less than one out of a hundred who will have adverse reactions, but that still translates into quite a few folks who work in healthcare and science! As it has been used for these purposes, these gloves have almost become tradition amongst the users.

Moreover, nitrile provides a very strong barrier against grease and oil and many other chemicals, as mentioned above, in addition to offering a greater manufacturing versatility, easier to work with, easier to shape and form precisely as needed. Not that the material is hard to make; the process is not too complicated and necessary machinery easy to procure. Thus most of the world's supply is made by poorer countries where labor is cheap.

Many also praise nitrile for simply being easier to slide on than latex, and for being heat sensitive, quickly molding itself to the wearer's hands, making for a snug contoured fit. Finally, there is the likelihood that nitrile is even environmentally beneficial, insofar as it is more durable than latex and thus gloves made out of it will last longer and see more use before disposal. Not being replaced as often means that less will be trashed within a certain period of time.
