Milkshakes have been summer favorites since the late 1800s. Though in modern times they are usually made with high tech blenders and restaurant grade milkshake machines, the most scrumptious versions are the ones made entirely by hand. There are literally hundreds of various ways to make a milkshake and personal preference is a big factor, but if you are a chocolate enthusiast then this particular milkshake recipe is just perfect for you.
The first step is to gather all the ingredients. To make the world's greatest chocolate milkshake you will need chocolate ice cream. Leave it out on the counter while you assemble the other ingredients to give it time to thaw out. You'll need milk of course, and two bars of your favorite chocolate. You'll also need a few peppermint candies and a powdered packet of hot chocolate.
Smaller blenders and hand mixers are the number two options if mixing by hand just is not possible. By now that ice cream will be slightly more melted and easier to blend. Add the milk and bars of chocolate to the ice cream until you're happy with the drink's density. Blend them all together for about two minutes.
Now it's time for the milkshake's remaining ingredients to be added. A few candied peppermints and a hot chocolate packet will give the drink a kick of extra flavor. Make sure the candies are on bottom when you add in all the ingredients to the blender. If they are sitting on the blade they will mix better. They can even be crushed up if you plan on using more than a few.
It's finally time to mix your milkshake after the ingredients have all been poured into the blender. Blend until all of the mixture's lumps are gone. If some of the candied peppermints are giving you trouble, they can be crushed up manually with a fork or spoon.
Now all that's left to do is enjoy your drink. Pour it into a tall glass and enjoy it with a spoon or straw. You can even top it with whipped cream if the mood strikes you. Milkshakes go great with almost anything and complement any meal. They're also great for dinner parties since, for added fun, guests can mix up their own.
While there are hundreds of different ways to make a milkshake, this recipe trumps all. The added chocolate and peppermint flavors make it a delicious and unique taste. Try blending it by hand to get an idea of how milkshakes tasted back in the 1800s.
