To someone just beginning to study the piano, the lessons, at first look, can be really intimidating. It's true that the piano is a hard instrument to learn, however, once you have mastered the first few lessons, you will be able to accomplish the rest without too much effort. The trick is in familiarizing yourself with the notes and the chords. You, of course, also have to put in lots of practice especially to enhance your hand-eye coordination.

Before we start, you should go get your own piano. Buying a good quality piano is better even if it costs a lot more. That's because pianos can last a lifetime if you buy the right one. Also, pianos are for keeps. It's a good decoration and people who come to your house can play it.

The basic fundamentals of the piano are really simple and easy to learn. The first thing you have to know is the keyboard layout. And although, the keys appear too many to memorize, the notes to remember are only 12. The rest is the same, the octaves are just higher. Have a feel of the entire keyboard or piano, just to make you enthusiastic about the coming lessons.

A requirement for playing the piano is the ability to read notes from a piano music sheet. But don't worry since this can be learned easily. Simple memorization is the only thing needed to achieve this. After being able to read and play the notes one by one, it's time to practice with the scales. Attempt to play as long as you can, without looking at the keys. You'll have to do this sooner or later anyway.

Something you have to learn early on is which fingers to use on which keys. Because new pianists choose to be comfortable rather than efficient, this is a problem. At the start, you should already know the proper finger placement, as this not doing so will ultimately harm your playing. There are "fingered" scales you can practice on for black and white keys.

Beginners have the tendency to practice only the right hand, since the right hand is usually used for the melody. However, that's very wrong. Both hands are equally important, especially as you go on to harder music sheets. Your left hand gives the balance so the sound produced will turn out just perfect.

Some of the challenges that beginners have to face include the symbols and musical terms. There are rules with each of them, so you have to familiarize and use it when playing.

For example, music written with a ¾ time at the left side of the sheet means that there are three beats per measure. This seems hard, but this is really the easy part. As you progress and learn more skill, the lessons will get more challenging.

Let me tell you that being able to play the piano is a big, big achievement. People never fail to admire pianists. They know it's hard to study piano, and harder still, is the continuous practice. Without practice, no matter how good the student or the teacher is, the lessons would be a waste.
