Most are compelled to purchase the most expensive one they can find in a jewelry store. Of course, who would not give the best for his woman? Yet not everyone is born lucky, one with a huge savings account in the bank. Fortunately, though, there are many ways on how guys can procure an engagement ring that is affordable or even for free:
Ask your grandma or mom. Before you try searching for the cheapest engagement ring, you may want to try looking for something free right at your own turf. It is common for people of long ago to pass down jewelry pieces, especially those of sentimental value like wedding or engagement ring, from one generation to another. There is a huge chance that your mom or grandma has been keeping one all along.
Purchase loose stones. There are actually loose stones sold in the market. These are the ones that still need to be set. Since they are not yet cut and placed in their setting, they are often sold cheap. The good thing about this is you have more freedom on the kind of ring design that you want. In fact, if you are too creative, you can be like King Louis XV of France, who commissioned his own jeweller to produce the marquise cut for his beloved.
Skip the diamonds. Though diamonds are really beautiful, they are not the only gemstones that you can use as an engagement ring. For one, you can have the aquamarine stone set in cushion cut, which makes the ring look more classic, vintage, and very romantic. You can also use the birthstone of your wife-to-be.
Go for the marquise cut. There are a lot of cuts to choose from when it comes to your stone, but one of the most practical is the marquise cut. It has the ability to improve the brilliance of any stone, even if it has quite a number of inclusions or flaws. Moreover, the cut ensures that a good number of the flaws will be removed before the stone is set.
Wait for a sale. If you are not in a hurry to get engaged, you can wait for the months of November until February when majority of the stores would have huge discounts of their items, including engagement rings.
