Many people believe that the key to learning a new skill lies in the phrase "practice makes perfect." While it is true that you can only hope to improve your guitar skills by practicing notes and chords, there is another important element which can have an impact on your success. If you do not enjoy what you are doing there is no way that you can ever become an accomplished guitarist - have fun with your acoustic guitar lessons and you will find that your enthusiasm carries over into your practice sessions and gives you the energy to stay motivated and to keep learning.

There are many ways in which students become bored during an acoustic guitar lesson. If the instructor is not engaged or if the material is too easy or too difficult, students quickly lose focus and stop enjoying themselves. If you are taking the route of teaching yourself to play the guitar, you may find it even more difficult to stay motivated during your acoustic guitar lessons. Before you become burned out and bored, think about your goals - what made you pick up a guitar in the first place? What do you hope to use your guitar skills for? When do you most enjoy playing the guitar? By asking yourself these questions you can find answers that will help you to modify your routine in such a way that your acoustic guitar lessons become fun once again. Perhaps all you need to do is add some more interesting material to your routine or maybe you just need a reminder of why you used to love playing the guitar.

Some of this material will come in the form of popular music. If you are learning guitar because you are inspired by the likes of Aerosmith, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, or Nickelback, you will undoubtedly enjoy getting the opportunity to play some of their music in your routine. Or perhaps you are a big fan of country music. By finding and using tablature offered by some of the greats, you may find yourself much more inspired to learn and get better at your instrument. Whatever works for you, you will find that once you start having fun with your lessons you will begin to learn more quickly and your skills will progress at a much faster rate. That should be both a goal and a priority for any serious guitarist.
