Starting my own souvenir shop has been a life long dream. I always wanted to work and live in Cape Cod, there’s nothing like it. Living close by the ocean and surrounded by all of nature’s beauty all the time. But when you own a business there are quite a few challenges. I certainly am glad for tracking labels – they’ve been a new business lifesaver!
Cape Cod’s Best Gifts opened last summer and this season has been our best yet. One of our most popular features? People don’t want to carry souvenirs with them – they want to ship them home. So they are waiting for them as they get home to unpack and get back to their lives. Whether they don’t have enough room in their suitcases or they simply prefer the convenience – I know that shipping their souvenirs has been the preferred option for many of my customers. That’s why it has been so great to have tracking labels for each and every one of those packages.
Some businesses may not understand how important a tracking label is. For that package, a tracking label works almost like a personal GPS system, letting you know exactly where it is at all times. This can be a great relief so often. If you have a customer that calls and says, “where is my package?” you can just type a code into the computer and right away you know exactly where that package is. Whether it is being processed for shipping or in a truck on route to delivery – you know what stage in shipping it is.
Offering tracking labels means that you can provide a higher level of customer service. There have been a few times when packages haven’t arrived as expected. This has been frustrating to me as a business owner and I’m sure even more frustrating to the customers! But with a tracking label I know what has happened and can work to fix the problem quicker than without a tracking label. Did you know that some businesses actually tell customers they have to wait until the ORIGINAL package is mailed back to the business before they will send out a new replacement? To me that seems like bad customer service and a great way to lose customers. With tracking labels I can tell if the address has been transposed. In some circumstances I can simply tell the shipping company to deliver it to the correct address. In others I ship out a new package. Either way I’m providing top level customer service that keeps them coming back for more.
As a new business tracking labels help me keep inventory costs lower than they could be. When a package goes missing in the mail – that’s money your business can be losing. If you lose the package that is! But with a tracking label you know where the package is. So the package comes back to you. This means the inventory comes back and you can either reship it to the customer or resell it to someone else. Keeping inventory costs under control is very important as a new business. New businesses can’t take chances the way other business can. By having tracking labels I know I’m doing something important for my business in an easy and convenient way.
