Being a teacher of music is not a hard job. You only need the right amount and combination of determination, passion and qualification.
Teaching violin for example, can look daunting for other people as it requires sufficient expertise and skill from the teacher. But, this can actually be a fun violin teacher job, which is rewarding as well, depending on how you handle your class!
To be able to make your violin teaching job fun, you have to impart the attitude of curiosity to your student. If both of you look forward to the violin classes that you are going to take part in, it will seem less likely a job or duty. It should be more of a fun experience, where you'll be able to impart something noteworthy, and your student to learn a new skill.
It will also be a less hassle too if both you have separate instruments. Before starting a class with a student, make sure that he has a violin to use during and after the class, for him to practice continuously and learn faster. What is more, you will find that a truly serious student will think about getting his own instrument to study with.
It should also be your duty to keep your student motivated. There will be trying and discouraging times when he commits mistakes, but as his teacher, you can influence a good attitude during the course of your lessons. Try to make the class fun for him, and encourage him if he commits mistakes, this is more called for, if you are handling a younger student.
Moreover, if your student is a child, it can be more challenging to keep him attentive during the class. There has to be enough motivation for a student to enjoy attending the class. You can try to provide colorful and interesting music books, and make the venue more child-friendly.
Giving merits like star stickers or stamps can also serve as motivation to your young learner. If a child feels a sense of achievement, he will strive more to do a harder job, just what an adult will do as well.
No matter how young or old your student can be, your classes will be lighter if you try to reach out to him and get to know things about him, such as his interests and other activities. This way, you can create a better rapport between the two of you and make your interaction lighter.
You can incite his interest in music by making him watch orchestral performances. If you are handling a group of students, you can even set a field trip and visit some musical museums pertaining to violin as well as see a violin performance together.
Teaching violin is much more than a job to be done. Amidst the daunting tasks and highly-needed expertise, your students who can become great violinists someday should serve as inspiration for you to enjoy your class and make it fun for both of you.
