People can spend a lot of time learning different self defense tactics because they want to feel safer in their daily activities. However, just like any other skill, there are additional steps that you can take to make your tactics more dependable over time. The unfortunate truth is that if you get attacked by a stranger, there is a good chance that it isn't their first time attacking someone. That means that they have more "real life" practice than you probably do. It doesn't matter if you took a class, at home course, or used a self defense video, your moves may not be as dependable in a real life situation as you would like them to be. Fortunately, there are some simple ways to enhance your skills.

The first thing that you can do to make your self defense tactics more dependable is simply to make the most with what you have. For example, by getting into better shape, you will have a stronger base to operate from. Even something simple like going for a job a few nights a week can help you out in a threatening situation. If you are attacked and create a window to escape, then you will benefit from being able to run more than a few blocks. If you rely on moves that require physical strength to be effective, then you might want to do some strength training a few times a week. Every type of self defense can be benefited by being in better physical shape. This is because the better shape that you are in, the stronger base of assets you have to rely on. The more assets that are in your favor, the more dependable your moves will be.

Another thing that you can do is practice once in a while. In general, the average person will forget between 65% and 70% of everything that they learn, and this includes self defense tactics. One of the easiest things to do is simply use a self defense video. You can purchase a video and then pop it in the DVD player once or twice a month. That way you are not only getting better at your moves, but they stay fresh in your mind, which means that you are less likely to forget them.

Along the same lines of practicing once or twice a month is staying alert on a daily basis. Staying mentally sharp can be difficult, especially if getting attacked isn't even on your mind. Fortunately, once you get used to paying attention to your surrounding environment, it will become second nature, which means you don't have to really think about it, you will just do it. If you are aware of your surroundings, then your self defense tactics will become more dependable. This is because you will be able to assess your situation quicker, which means that you can implement your self defense tactics more quickly. Not only will you be able to take action faster, but you will also increase the likelihood of choosing the tactic that is best suited for the situation.

Taking the time to learn self defense tactics is only the first step. In order to make them more dependable, it is important that you do what you can to make them more dependable. There are simple steps that you can take to make this happen. You can get into better physical shape so that each move will be more effective. You can practice once or twice a month using a self defense video and you can make sure that you are staying mentally alert whenever you are out of the house.
