Do you have a love of the violin? Do you want to learn to play easily and quickly? Unfortunately this is a difficult instrument to learn to play. It really takes dedication and work. However, finding the right class and the right teacher is a key element in being successful.

You will have to decide what type of lessons will be best for you before you can think about enrolling. You can either take a private class or a group class. The final decision will depend on your personal circumstances and on whether the lessons will be for you or for your child.

When you are either looking for violin classes for yourself or for your child, you need to make a few choices. You should decide on either group or individual classes and this takes some consideration.

Personal Attention Vs. Learning from Peers

In individual classes you get personal attention from a violin teacher, and all the practice time is dedicated to you. This benefits a few type of individuals but many others still like to be in a group class. It might be beneficial in the beginning to take an individual class, as this is the time you will spend working on intonation, technique and theory. But when the time to learn harmony comes, joining a group class will be ideal.

Some studies have shown that ensemble work, or group work needs to be just as important as learning technique. Musicians who share their gift learn to love and appreciate their violin music even more. Interaction with others brings joy, shared techniques, and the fun of interacting with others while learning.

Children Violin Lessons

A very popular method of learning the violin for children is the Suzuki violin lesson. This method emphasizes group learning. The idea behind this method is to surround the children with the music they will play. To be surrounded it is important that they listen to the music and then participate in it. This means they have to learn in a group setting so they are influenced by both professionals and by each other.

Adults Violin Lessons

Adults may prefer individualized classes because there is a certain amount of privacy, and the teacher will go at the pace of the adult learner. In many ways, the Suzuki group method is not appropriate for an adult, and some adults even feel shy and inept in traditional group classes. Instead of totally giving up violin class, why not just take an individual class.

Taking group or individual classes depends on the student and his particular situation. Children will benefit more from group classes while many adults favor the private classes more. But there are also some adults who prefer the group violin lessons because it gives them a chance to interact with others. Plus, it is much cheaper than private tutoring.
