When the kids head off to college, friends and family staying behind may feel somewhat lost. It isn't as easy to show love to a person across many miles as it is when you walk past them every day. If you have a loved one who is away from home for college, you can send your love to them; you just have to find different ways to do it. Receiving special packages is a welcome surprise to any student away from home. Electronics are big in the lives of just about everyone these days. College students typically have to carry student identification with them, and some students may have key cards to enter their dorm building or other school facilities. To show your college student that you are thinking of them, send them a lanyard. But instead of sending just any old lanyard, send them something that shows them how well you know them. Chances are, you have visited the school your child is attending at least once. You may therefore know what restaurants and shops are in the area. To surprise your college student, consider placing an order at one of the local restaurants and having it delivered to their apartment or dorm room. Perhaps it can be a restaurant that you frequented before they left home for school. Simple notes are always nice to receive. While you may think your college student is too busy to read correspondence from home; the truth of the matter is they would probably really enjoy getting a brief note that just says "I'm thinking about you" or "good luck with finals". Sending items, notes, or special deliveries to the college student in your life is a sure fire way to ease their feeling of homesickness. Even if they don't communicate it, you can bet your bottom dollar they appreciate your efforts and feel loved. Sure, this is a time when the "kids" need to spread their wings and flutter into adulthood; but they still need to know they have a strong wind on which to ride.
